PHILOSOPHY
美しい文化とは、その土地の物理的条件に対する、人間の必然的な応答の痕跡です。
私たちの仕事は、作ることではなく、顕すことです。外から意味を持ち込まず、すでにそこにある意味を引き出します。
A beautiful culture is the trace of how people have answered, out of necessity, the physical conditions of their land. Our work is not to make but to reveal: we bring no meaning in from outside, and draw out the meaning that is already there.
METHOD
私たちは、二つの軸を手がかりに、場所を見ます。
We read each place with two axes as our guide.
- 縦の軸 地質・地形・水その場所が、なぜそこにあるのか。
Scale — geology, landform, water - 横の軸 時間・文化・人の応答人がその条件に、どう応え続けてきたのか。
Time — culture, and the human response
